What to expect

Initial Appointment

Your initial hand physio appointment may take between 30-60 minutes, depending on your therapist and the nature of the treatment required. During this appointment we will find out more about you as an individual and how your life is impacted by your injury and/or impairment. From that we will discuss a treatment plan and aim to provide the first step of that treatment.

Follow Up Appointments

Your following hand physio appointments will vary in frequency and time according to your injury and treatment plan.

ACC & Documentation

Completing ACC Documentation: All required ACC documentation can be filled out at Hand Rehab on your first appointment. For simple injury incidents, ACC can usually inform you if your claim is accepted or not within 2 weeks. For more complex injuries / injury incidents, ACC may take longer to assess the circumstances of your injury claim.

Any Other ACC Forms or Documentation: If you have already contacted ACC and have any forms or documentation relevant to your current injury, please bring these ACC forms or documents along with you on your first visit.

If you cancel within 24 hours of an appointment, or do not show up, a fee equivalent to the standard ACC co-payment or the full private fee will be charged.

FAQs

Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral to come to Hand Rehab.

What does Hand Rehab do?

We provide physiotherapy for any injury or condition from the elbow to the tip of the finger.

What are your opening hours?

Some of our clinics work slightly different hours but generally our clinics are open Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.30pm. Click ‘Book Online’ to find an available appointment or call us on 0800 776500

Are splints covered by ACC as well?

Yes, these are covered by ACC unless it is not for the injury that is accepted by ACC on your claim.

When will I incur a cancellation and/or no show fee?

Please let us know as soon as possible if you can’t attend your appointment.

If you cancel within 24 hours of an appointment, or do not show up, a fee equivalent to the standard ACC co-payment or the full private fee will be charged.

This will need to be paid in full before further appointments can be booked.

Will ACC cover the cost of an appointment if do not attend it?

No, you need to physically attend an appointment, for ACC to cover the cost of it. If you do not attend your appointment you will be personally liable for the ‘No Show’ fee.

What happens if I do not make an appointment?

If you are referred to us and you do not show to an appointment the referrer is informed. If this happens multiple times ACC is also informed. You will also incur a ‘No Show’ fee for non-attendance to your appointment.

Why won’t ACC cover gradual process injuries?

If the injury is a gradual process injury, e.g. using the keyboard or mouse then it is best to have your GP submit the claim to ACC as they will then investigate the situation. ACC do not cover gradual process injuries as this type of injury has not been caused by an accident or something sudden.

What injuries do you treat?

Our treatments cover any injury, as long as it is present in any part of the arm from the elbow to the fingertips.

How long will my sessions be?

Your initial consultation will take approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Follow up appointments normally take 45 minutes.

Can I get an X-ray without a referral?

This is not normally an option, and we suggest you check with the radiology centres. However, our therapists will refer you to have x-rays if they deem this necessary.

Can I change clinics from my initial appointment to another clinic location?

Yes, you can. We can see you in one clinic and you can easily be seen in another clinic anytime during your treatment process, including a Habit Health clinic
